How to use XAMPP & IIS together? Well, working together on both IIS & XAMPP can really be a tricky task for beginners. The main aim of this article is to help beginners to get XAMPP Apache Server and IIS server works together. Since port 80 is also used by IIS, we need to change XAMPP port 80 to another port number which is not used by any other service.

XAMPP: XAMPP is a free and open source cross-platform web server developed by Apache Friends. It is a simple, lightweight distribution that makes it extremely easy for developers to create a local web server for testing purposes.

IIS: IIS stands for Internet Information Services (formerly Internet Information Server). It is a web server developed by Microsoft which is used for development and testing purposes. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SMTP and NNTP.

Steps Required To Run XAMPP & IIS together

1. Download XAMPP and proceed with the installation process.

2. Once the installation is successfully completed, you need to go to this directory inside your XAMPP folder:/xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf

3. Search forListen 80 and replace it with Listen 8080

4. Now, search forServerName localhost:80 and replace it with ServerName localhost:8080

5. Save this file and close it.

6. After completing these steps, go to this directory:/Xampp/apache/conf/extra/httpd-ssl.conf

7. Search forListen 443 and replace it with Listen 4499

8. Now, search forVirtualHost _default_:443> and replace it with VirtualHost _default_:4499>

9. Search forServerName localhost:443 and replace it with ServerName localhost:4499

10. You are done with the configuration, now you can save & close the file.

Now, you can run your XAMPP & IIS together.

Setting up XAMPP(Apache) with IIS on Windows

If you are a web developer or .Net blogger, you may want to run Apache and IIS on your dev machine. There are two ways to do this:
1. Keep IIS as it is and update XAMPP for different port
2. Keep XAMPP as it is and update IIS for different port
Let us see how to implement each case step by step.

Case I: Keep IIS as it is and update XAMPP port

1. Download 7zip or zip version of XAMPP and extract it in a folder OR Download setup and install it.

2. Open file \xampp\apache\conf\httpd.conf
search following line(at 47 in default installation):
Listen 80
change the port 80 to another say 8080 as shown below:
Listen 8080
Also search following line(at 181 in default installation)
ServerName localhost:80
and change port 80 to 8080 as shown below:
ServerName localhost:8080

3. Open \xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-ssl.conf file.

search for “Listen 443” and change to “Listen 449”
search for “<VirtualHost _default_:443>” and change to “<VirtualHost _default_:449>”
search for “ServerName localhost:443” and change to “ServerName localhost:449”

4. Start the “setup_xampp.bat” and beginning the installation.

5. Double click on xampp_start.exe. It will start XAMPP.

Note: Do NOT close console window if it is not closed automatically. Keep it opened.

6. Start your browser and type http://127.0.0.1:8080 or http://localhost:8080 in the location bar. You will see XAMPP start page.

Now, you can work with both IIS and Apache servers.

Case II: Keep XAMPP as it is and change IIS port:

For IIS 7 (default in Windows 7):

Type Inetmgr and Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
Select Default Web site.
In the Action pane, click Bindings.
Click Add to add a new site binding, or click Edit to change an existing binding.
Click OK to apply the changes.

Now http://localhost:8080 is for Default IIS website.

For other version of IIS see following to change port:

Now which case is suitable for you? If you have high priority IIS website(don’t want to change) or have many existing sites running in IIS, change XAMPP port else change IIS default website port.

WAMP phpMyAdmin username and password.

Default phpMyAdmin username and password.

If you’re having trouble logging into a fresh install of phpMyAdmin, then simply use the following username and password:

• user: root
• password: *blank*

The above login credentials belong to the default MySQL user account that gets created during a new install. Note that you should leave the password field completely blank. Do not actually type in *blank*.

If those details do not work, then you should open up the config.inc.php in your phpMyAdmin folder. Firstly make sure that AllowNoPassword is set to true:

1	$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPassword'] = true;

You can also see what login credentials have been stored:

1 2	$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = '';

How to Run WAMP Server Parallel with IIS 7 on Windows

WAMP Server is one   of the best software packages that installs and manages Apache, MySQL and PHP very easily on Windows. But when you already have IIS running then you may not be able to run WAMP Server at Localhost. You need to shutdown IIS in order to run WAMP Server properly.

In this short tutorial, I will tell you how you can run WAMP Server on Windows without shutting down IIS 7 on Windows 7. By following this tutorial you can run WAMP Server on http://localhost:8080 and IIS 7 on http://localhost

You need to install IIS and WAMP Server first to follow this tutorial. Usually after installing WAMP Server, when you open http://localhost, you can access the WAMPServer page but if  IIS 7 is installed and ran with WAMP server, IIS 7 page is opened instead.

To run WAMP Server parallel with IIS 7, we need to assign port 8080 to WAMP Server so that it runs on http://localhost:8080 and IIS 7 runs on http://localhost.com.
To do this, click on WAMP Server icon on taskbar and go to Apache > httpd.conf

httpd.conf file will be opened. Change ‘Listen 80’ to ‘Listen 8080’ (As shown in the screenshot). Save and restart WAMP.


Now you can access WAMP Server access on http://localhost:8080

And at http://localhost IIS 7 will be running.

Set or reset a Windows administrator password

Windows 7

1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel. If you are not already in Category View, in the upper left, click Category View. Then, click User Accounts and Family Safety.
2. Under "User Accounts", click Change your Windows password. If prompted, click Continue.
3. Under "Make changes to your user account", click Set a password.
4. In the "New password" and "Confirm new password" fields, enter the password. Click OK twice.
